ESSER III Survey (Click Here to submit survey)

On March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act was signed into law. The U.S. Department of Education is providing an additional $121.9 billion for the Elementary and Secondary Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER III Fund). This legislation will award these grants to state educational agencies for the purpose of providing local education agencies with emergency relief funds to address the impact that COVID-19 has had, and continues to have, on elementary and secondary schools across the nation.

Barnwell School District 19 is receiving $4,098,853 of these funds to address learning loss and academic needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The district needs community input on the spending of the ESSER III allocation.

DHEC Information

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) wants to assure that all children receive recommended vaccines to prevent disease.  DHEC reminds parents and guardians that (South Carolina law) requires all updated immunizations. South Carolina law requires that all students entering 7th grade receive one (1) dose of Tdap vaccine. The Tdap vaccine protects preteens and teens from three serious diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough).   Please follow up with your child’s medical provider for required vaccines. This certificate is required by state law for school attendance as well as virtual students.   If vaccines are not up to date students will be not be able to attend school and marked absent. Don’t forget to make sure you get an updated SC Certificate of Immunization to give to your school nurse

Your local DHEC health department also can provide these vaccines. Call 1-855-472-3432 to make an appointment.  For more information about vaccination in South Carolina, go to
